Inayat is a team under the Centre for Sustainable Development (CSD), an initiative by the students of Indira Gandhi Delhi Technical University for Women (IGDTUW) that works on sustainable development goals established by the United Nations. Inayat, working on SDGs 7, 12 and 13, strives to reduce waste production by promoting sustainable consumption and spreading awareness about responsible choices.
The episode showed how the people of Costa Rica live their lives sustainably, trying to minimise the damage to the environment. In the episode, a school was shown, which did not resort to bookish knowledge and conventional ways to educate children, but rather, allow students to find unique solutions and ways for living life sustainably. There were communities which were dedicated to producing their own food and energy without leaving a negative imprint on the planet. Through this show, we saw how people can come together to think differently about every aspect of their lives and create a healthy, unique, and sustainable lifestyle.
We decided to visit Sabki Pathshala to impart knowledge of SDGs and to get acquainted with the solutions they can suggest. Sabki Pathshala is situated in Pragati Maidan, New Delhi. It is an initiative to empower underprivileged children, youth, and women through the tool of education. It aims to provide education to those children who face circumstances which force them to deviate from their path of acquiring education. We, at Inayat, to spread awareness chose Sabki Pathshala as our first institution and can proudly say that it was a good decision.
We started our event by introducing Inayat to all the members. What Inayat had done and its responsibilities. we’ve introduced the main motive of the event “Sustainable Fashion”. After that students were explained how to make these scrunchies on their own and were also made aware of sustainable fashion. All the students participated actively in the workshop and the results were amazing.
Give for Good was a clothes donation drive started by the vigilant team members of Inayat and Eudaimonia. The donation drive started on 25th April 2022 and went up to 2nd May 2022. The team collaborated with Goonj for the drive and all the obtained garments were sent to the Sarita Vihar Goonj Centre on 05th May 2022.
Inayat had organised its 5-day long Twitter Campaign "Care, Wear, and Repair" that aims to promote sustainable fashion. Each day a question related to sustainable fashion is posted, a brief description is given about that question, and mentors are required to retweet it about what their take on that question is. Every question is different, some were knowledge based and some were opinionated.
The 4 questions were:
1. What is your definition of sustainable fashion? What features make fashion more sustainable?
2. What are the challenges when switching to sustainable fashion?
3. What is your main priority while shopping for clothes? How can you make your shopping pattern more sustainable?
4. How do you dispose of unwanted clothes?
Team Inayat held a fashion show in colab with Rotaract to promote sustainable fashion and ethnic wear in IGDTUW.
